Tony Millar, long time cannabis advocate and co-founder of the Ontario Cannabis festival is bringing people an event designed to let people have some fun with cannabis. We sat down with Tony to learn more about the festival experience.
Tony describes this as a grass roots festival. Where everything that is happening is for cannabis consumers. There will be a food market, the main stage, and the vendor village.
The music will play throughout the day in the entertainment area. They plan to feature some local DJs, Reggae musicians, live bands. So far DJ Flash, The Liberation Band and Hugo Alley are confirmed along with comedic talent Mike Rita.
Tony described practical workshops throughout the day, everything from how to roll a joint, to how to grow a plant, to how to extract cannabis without solvents and how to infuse butter. At the time of this interview Tony was also exploring buskers, burlesque dancers and cannabis themed face painting as options.
Vendors of all types are being welcomed as long as they are not selling the THC, event organizers are happy to have them there.
They are also hoping to roll the worlds largest joint! This requires attendees to support. You can pitch in and roll one section of the joint with your own personal stash. Don’t worry you will get it back after the joint is completed. You can bring in up to 30 grams and to contribute to one foot you will need to roll about 3.5 grams of your stash. The event organizers are aiming for a 110 foot joint!
They have partnered with Jacqui Childs to promote the event but also to attend and be a guest speaker at the festival. Jacqui is a public figure, author and cannabis advocate. She regularly speaks at cannabis events. She uses her influence to share her stories of wellness and recovery through cannabis and mindful consumption.
They are expecting over 4,000 attendees and given that it is the first week of university and college there will be a lot of new folks in town. The event organizers hope the posters placed around the city will entice people to come learn a little bit more about cannabis even if they aren’t regular consumers of cannabis.
If you get hungry there will be food offerings including ice cream and food trucks like Boston Pizza, Gastro Grub and Fork n Good available on site.
If beer is more your thing there will be a beer garden.
Cannabis can be consumed almost anywhere with the exception of the food truck area and the beer garden.
